Roadtrip USA Marian

Hey!

Wie manche von euch vielleicht schon mitbekommen haben, bin ich zur Zeit mit meinem Bruder in Salt Lake City, Utah, Heimat des "greatest snow on earth". Normalerweise fallen hier Unmengen an trockenem fluffigen Powder.

Stay tuned,

Marian

Hey guys,

last weekend I got the chance to compete in the Freeride World Tour stop in Fieberbrunn. Just one day before the ridersmeeting I got the news that I was allowed to participate. My plan was to choose a easy line and ski it fluent. I didn't want to take too much risk on my first FWT comp and tried to get a top10 result. Unfortunately I had a bad backseat landing after a really small cliff with one hand in the snow. I got a 1,5 point deduction which got me the 16th place instead of a (probably) top10 result.

But anyways, it was a really cool experience to compete with all those big names. Especially as the youngest skier who has ever competed in a FWT contest. If I get the chance to ski in the FWT again, I'll for sure go for a top result. But before that, there are 3 more FWQ events this season I'm going to take part in. Wish me luck!  :)

Camping/Eldorade Freeride/1st Place at Pitztal Wild Face

Hey guys, there was quite a lot going on in the past two weeks. I've been filming with Time - for the Whiteroom again. We hiked into a valley with all our camping stuff and built up our basecamp. Unfortunately the conditions weren't really save. We triggered quite a few avalanches on the first day, thankfully everyone was fine. The next days the avalanche situation increased because of the strong sun, so we couldn't ski all the faces we wanted to... But anyways, we had a really great time out there and all of us are looking forward to our next camping adventure  ;)

Snacks and suplies

+5 degrees during the day, -15 at night

Flo and me getting ready

Triggered the avalanche in my second turn. I could ski out of it. We decided to hike up again and ski down a easier run.

Eldorado Freeride

Right after our little adventure I drove to Zürich together with Alexander Hoffmann and Nadine Wallner. From there we took the plane to Barcelona, rented a car and drove to Andorra where the Eldorado Freeride took place. I chose a line with 2 big cliffs for the qualification because there were just 6 spots in the final. Stomped the first one clean and crashed the last cliff. I landed in nice powder with the tails of my skis and hit a hard-packed snow right underneath my bindings. My body fell forward and I ripped one binding out of my ski. This was the end of my competition. Probs to Alex, he won at the Snowboard finals.

After the comp we spent two more days in barcelona. Just walking around in the city, ate a lot and made some party   :D

Jibber? :D

It's me, Mario!

Pitztal Wild Face

This weekind the Pitztal Wild face took place the 3rd time. It's the longest off pist race in the world. 1500 hight meters and 4.6km long. I took it easy in the qualification und qualified 5th. For the final day on saturday I went all in and was the fastest. I needed 6:06 minutes, Fredi was second with 6:08, really close together this year!

pretty long way down to the village

Next week I'll do some more filming and take part in the 3* FWQ in Chandolin. I need 2 more good results to get into the Freeride World Tour next year. Let's see if it works out  :)

3rd place FWT Qualifier Hochfügen
Hey guys,

I made it on the podium of the FWT Qualifier in Hochfügen. So stoked to get this result after my 14th place in La Clusaz. With this two results I'm now listed as place 7 in the seeding list, which is a pretty good start I guess. I'll definitely try to ski some more comps and get up higher in the ranking. Let's see if it works  :)

Hey folks,

I'm happy to show you two new publications in the Skiing. The first one in the Resort Special 11/12, the other one is in the current Skiing issue. If you haven't seen it already get yourself a magazin and check the report about Laax. Oh btw, you don't have to give me probs for my great scanning skills  ;)

Here we come to my second request of this post. All of you may have noticed that we had a really dry winter so far. Then there was a quite nice dump not long ago. Which means that there's a bad connection between this two snow layers. Especially in the shady terrain.

Abridgment of the Avalanche Bulletin (Lawinenlagebericht)

Snow Layering

The snowpack is quite variable and irregular. Deeply drifted areas can be found adjacent to areas utterly bare of snow. There is much more snow in western than in eastern regions. The least favourable snow layering is currently shady terrain above about 2600 m. In high alpine regions, i.e. above 3000 m, this is the case on west to north to east facing slopes, where during the clear weather of November the snowpack from autumn slowly transformed to loosely packed depth hoar. In some places, surface hoar has now formed atop this old snowpack. Snowdrift which formed over the last week is very poorly bonded in general.

I'm telling you this because we triggered a pretty big avalanche a few days ago in Kauntertal. We assumed that these snow layers should be steady already, but this wasn't the case. So if you're planning to ski some bigger lines the next days/weeks, please consider the current snow layering.

Here are some pictures of our avalanche. We are all fine btw...
